We are happy to announce the completion of our latest collection’s preservation grant!
Oral history interviews from the local African-American community found in the Doris K. Wylie Hoskins Archive were successfully reformatted and digitized. Originally recorded on 30 audiocassettes and 26 minidiscs, the interviews are now safely preserved and much more accessible to the community.
The subjects of these interviews include: Erma Bridgewater, Peter Bridgewater, Ruth Hendricks, Wilda Herndon, Charles Joyner, Patricia Kingston, Patricia Lewis, Vern Lewis, Jeff Macheta, Imani Bazzell, Mary Clark, Maudie Edwards, Lashunda Hambrick, Renner Hoskins, R. Irfan-Womble, Phyllis Snir-Clark, Rich Vickers-Shelley, and Margot Williams.
This exciting project was supported in part by an award from the Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board, through funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, National Archives and Records Administration.
Future steps are to complete content logs for each interview and ultimately tackle complete transcriptions.
