FEATURED VENDOR: Giant Microbes

The Museum Store works hard to serve as an extension of our exhibits within the museum. As part of the current temporary exhibit, A History of Healing: Infectious Diseases and Community Responses to Defeat Them, the Museum Store offers a whole line of humorous and educational plush microbes. Yes...microbes! 

Giant Microbes are plush "animals" that resemble tiny microbes, such as the flu, common cold, or typhoid, each of which are featured in the museum's exhibit. 

While they may sound strange, these Giant Microbes make great gifts and are really fun learning tools for all ages!

Here is a little bit of information about this company:

Giant Microbes began in 2002 as a startup company, and has since grown to sell produts all over the world. They work with many major charitable organizations, such as the American Red Cross, to further outreach and education. 

Their goal with designing these plush microbes is to "produce educational vehicles based on accurate science to promote a greater understanding of the huge impact that tiny creatures have on our world." 

They were originally designed to teach small children about the importance of hand-washing. With the expansion of the company has come the expansion of microbes that are now created for many other purposes. Currently, there are over a hundred designs that they carry, which depict anything from a range of medical pathogens to everything from the cells in the body to probiotic creatures that improve health. 

We love Giant Microbes for their whimsical spin on addressing these topics, and we feel that they are a great addition to our Museum Store in continuing the educational process outside of the museum! Stop into the store and check these out! And click here to learn more about this amazing company!
