March's birth flower is the Daffodil. Because of its early spring appearance the daffodil represents hope, rebirth and rejuvenation. This popular garden flower can easily repopulate as a bulb and fortunately has not become problematic as an invasive species. Because of its toxicity, deer and rodents will not eat it and it is harmful to pets. Originally grown in Greece and named for Narcissus, the son of the Greek god Cephissus and Nymph Lirope, it is now mainly developed and grown in Holland. The bright yellow color and recognizable spring flower will stun you into admiration. Visit the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Gardens in early spring to view our sea of daffodils and hyacinth.
